The Rare Parisian Ganguro

This gyaru was spotted far from her natural habitat. Could it be the rare Parisian Ganguro? Brilliant!

It’s no secret that Ganguro and Yamamba are some of my absolute favorites of Japanese fashion subcultures. We were in Paris last summer for Japan Expo (best business trip ever? Being president of Otakorp Inc. did include some pretty awesome experiences!) and there I spotted this gorgeous Gyaru.

What do you think? The style is pretty intense, and definitely not for everyone! It’s slightly terrifying, and I love it. How about you?

Saw this recently over on JADIJ, and was really excited to find it for sale in our very own department store! You, too could be the proud owner of this delightfully judgemental trashcan, as modeled by our lovely friend Anna. Seriously, how awesome is this trashcan?

My favorite part is the “…?” So judgmental! It sounds like something GLaDOS would say, especially since Sean’s been playing Portal 2 lately…

The Perils of Cycling

The bad news is that 2 of my friends have been hit by cars while riding their bicycles in the past week. The past week!

The good news is that they both walked away from the accidents without much more than bruises. Still, apparently it’s gaijin-hunting season out there! I’m a pretty cautious cyclist (read: slow) but I’ll still be sure to be extra careful.

With that in mind, this sign seemed quite appropriate on my way home today. I know it’s supposed to imply that speeding on your bicycle might cause pedestrian accidents, but to me, it looks like that guy on the right is dancing while his insides explode. Or like he’s flying towards the bicyclist while wearing a red hedgehog!

What non-standard interpretation do you see?

Hearts on the Tokyo Tower!

Well, apparently the Tokyo Tower does indeed have hearts on it! Though according to the creator of this video, they are not related to the Royal Wedding, but are instead in memory of the victims of the recent disasters. I don’t read the news in Japanese much, so does anyone have more info? In the meantime, check out this gorgeous video of the tower!
