As I mentioned, I’ve been looking all over for the new Summer Pepsi since it was released earlier this week. I’m a big fan of the seasonal Pepsi flavors, like last winter’s Mont Blanc, Shiso, Cucumber, beautiful Baobab…the list goes on and on. So I was pretty excited when I heard the new one was out!
So how does the new Pepsi Dry stack up? Well, I think they got the name wrong. They actually should have called it the Pepsi Vile. Don’t let my smiling face fool you–that picture was taken before I took a sip. I probably should have taken an after shot just to show you how wretched this stuff is.
What makes it so disgusting? This is apparently Pepsi’s new foray into “Unsweet Cola” and as such it has very little sugar. It has no artificial sweeteners to make up for the lack, so it truly is unsweet. I don’t know about you, but when I get a soda, I tend to expect a glorious sugary nectar designed to make my teeth fall out, not a vague brown glass of yuck.
You know when you get a fountain soda, but the syrup is almost out and you just get a glass of brown, cola-scented club soda? It’s like that. Like someone crossed Pepsi and Tonic water, perhaps. Slightly bitter, a strange odor, and with just enough calories to be annoying.
Not only is it disgusting, but it doesn’t seem very “summery” either. Hopefully this is just a late April fool’s joke, and the actual Summer flavor will be out shortly. Please!

Hilarious post. This is also something I’ve never seen before- the drink companies playing around with flavors……Soy sauce flavored Coke for instance? Why?
I enjoy the way Japanese companies play with flavors here–the soy sauce Kit Kats were actually pretty tasty! I think it plays on the collector mentality–“Gotta catch ’em all!” applies to way more than just Pokemon here!
Unsweetened soda? Ugh. Thanks for the warning!

Yeah – I picked up a bottle at the conbini the other day. Harder than hell to find “regular” Pepsi in my inaka town, but this Dry stuff is everywhere.
I didn’t like it either. I get Pepsi Nex – it’s zero calorie with fake sugar, but this stuff seems pointless to me – it’s not a diet beverage and it’s basically flavorless, or I should say devoid of any good taste. Who does this appeal to?
It’s fizzy and has a slight cola taste, but I could never drink a whole bottle of the stuff.

Yeah, it seemed to be trying to appeal to the diet set with it’s silver packaging, but it still has calories. Whaaaa? I couldn’t finish the bottle either!
Who does this appeal to? GROWN UPS who do not like their cola to be so sugar filled that it makes them feel like a thousand little jack hammers are drilling holes in their teeth while they drink it like regular pepsi does. Develop a palate people and some taste, oh yeah I forgot that comes with being GROWN UP!
I tried this last week. Your description of it is pretty accurate. I couldn’t believe how little flavour there was, and what little flavour there was wasn’t very good.

SO disappointing! And not even that exciting a flavor either! Bring back Shiso or Baobab or Cucumber!
I really really liked it!! I’m not such a fan of sweet fizzy drinks….I don’t drink them that often to be honest but when I do, its a struggle to get through a whole bottle because they are normally too sweet for me 🙂
If you don’t care sweet drinks, than this is the perfect drink for you! I’m glad that there’s someone out there that is is good for–you can have mine 😛
Haha you’re so right about the flavour! It’s like going to somewhere like an old ice-skating rink and finding that not only do they have some random cola brand that you’ve never heard of before but the water to syrup ratio is grossly skewed because they’re stingy and want to save money!
When I used to work in a pub and I was getting myself a drink I would half hold the diet coke button down to get more syrup out – so tasty!
Hahaha, exactly! That ice skating rink image is brilliant. And it totally tastes like some off brand of cola, barely even Pepsi. Actually at my family’s stores back home, the syrup is always set to really heavy because people tend to prefer sweeter drinks, especially in our area! Tricky, tricky 🙂
I thought this was fantastic… I can’t drink non-diet soda because it just tastes like syrup to me… This was crisp and refreshing and didn’t make me feel like I was about to lapse into hypoglycemic shock

Visiting Japan now and just grabbed one of these – so had to do a Google search to understand what this was. I loved it – refreshing, less sweet, no sweetener taste. I drink a lot of diet cola, and this was better than that alternative (and i think regular colas are too sweet). So there, I may not be the best benchmark, but actually hope this makes it into the USA where I live.
